Ajman University undertook a number of initiatives this year, aimed at fostering inclusion of the underprivileged and differently-abled in the mainstream of university education. These activities ranged from providing hundreds of free laptops for needy students, to organizing informative webinars on various topics that inform and sensitize everyone in the university towards those with special needs.
Underlining our commitment to inclusiveness, Ajman University distributed 140 laptops this summer to needy students in order to support their continued education during the Covid-19 pandemic. These laptops, donated by the Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Charitable Foundation, were distributed under our initiative called “Supporting Education,” aimed at promoting our inclusiveness and social impact goals.
Ajman University is also committed to facilitating learning and development of the differently abled. In order to sensitize staff and train them in the needs of the hearing impaired, one of our enterprising staff, Nada Shahin, Administrator and Certified Trainer in the Office of IT, delivered a webinar titled “American Sign Language”. The session helped our staff understand the nuances of sign language meant to communicate with deaf people.
In order to raise awareness about breast cancer, Ajman University ran a Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, in coordination with the Dubai Health Authority, which comprised a series of highly informative webinars. In one of the webinars titled, “One on one Discussion with the Breast Cancer Winners,” AU hosted 4 women breast cancer survivors from Australia, Egypt, India and Lebanon who spoke about their experiences and fight with breast cancer.
Meanwhile, on World Diabetes Day, Ajman University’s College of Dentistry commemorated the day by delivering a webinar titled “Diabetes and Periodontal Diseases.” One of the speakers in the webinar was from the College of Dental Medicine, University of Sharjah.
