Ajman University- Sustainability Club from Engineering College- along with the Students Affairs Deanship has collaborated with Ajman Municipality and Planning Department in organizing a competition for waste recycling (Towards Sustainable Environment) for Ajman University students. The aim of this competition was to introduce the students to the concept of waste management and raise awareness in the community for a sustainable environment.
The winners were announced at the 5th Ajman International Conference and Exhibition on Climate Change and Sustainability. The First place was secured by the project “Sustainable Irrigation System” by students Subae Haitham, Mohannad Ayman, Mohamed Abdulnasser, Majd Aldeen Kanous, and NajmEddin Charaf. This system utilizes waste water produced from Air Conditioning to operate a smart irrigation system.
The second place was won by “Water Bottle Dispensing Machine” by students Jafar Al Shadidi, Mohamad Shadi and Rami Saleem Derbas. This machine encourages recycling by dispensing a free water bottle every time a person recycles an empty bottle. “Smart Sustainable Lighting System” won the third prize at the competition. This project by students Emad Dababseh, Osama Alakeel and Mohammad Kayed is about making use of the external natural lighting (sun) to minimize the wasted energy in the lighting systems and maintain the appropriate lighting intensity for the consumers.
It is worthy to mention these students are from the College of Engineering and Pharmacy and presented their projects in an exceptionally professional manner to the jury of the event.
