The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and as part of its commitment towards the community, organized an awareness campaign on Osteoporosis and its risk factors.
Prof. Najeeb the Dean of the college said: “The College organized this event in order to educate the community and raise the health awareness of osteoporosis” He went on to say, “Osteoporosis is a silent disease affecting 1 in each 3 women and 1 in each 5 men of the community. Osteoporosis is caused by low bone mineral density, making bones more fragile and prone to fractures”.
World Osteoporosis Day is observed annually worldwide, and the International Osteoporosis Foundation launched a yearlong campaign dedicated to the global awareness of the prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of this disease. The college of pharmacy actively plays an important role in achieving that aim.
The event included several activities, food education, competitions and poster presentations aiming to raise awareness of this serious disease. University students were educated about the risk factors, causes, methods of prevention and treatment of the disease.
