Ajman University held a Convocation Ceremony and Reception for new students on Sunday, August 26, 2018. The Ceremony was held at the Sheikh Zayed Conference & Exhibition Center in the presence of more than 1000 students ready to embark on their academic journey at AU.
During his Convocation remarks, AU Chancellor Karim Seghir noted that the ceremony coincided with the 30th anniversary of the founding of Ajman University. Since its founding in 1988, AU has graduated more than 36,000 alumni, representing 101 different nationalities – many of whom hold senior positions in public and private institutions inside and outside the U.A.E.
Dr. Karim told the new students about some of AU’s many distinctions. "Today you are joining one of the best universities, not only in the UAE and the region, but in the whole world,” he said. “AU has recently been ranked among the top 1,000 universities in the world and among the top 150 universities under the age of 50 globally, according to QS University World Rankings.”
The Chancellor welcomed, in particular, the first batch of students to be enrolled in the College of Medicine. AU is now considered one of the most comprehensive educational institutions in the region. Additionally, Dr. Karim expressed pride in the fact that Ajman University’s Bachelor of Pharmacy program has obtained International Certification by the US-based Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), which is one of the most prestigious accrediting bodies for pharmaceutical education in the world.
Dr. Karim referenced some of the latest achievements of the University, including the induction of five students and three alumni into the Knights of BUNYAN, during which they were honored by HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance in the UAE and Honorary President of the University Leadership Initiative. Knights are chosen from the most eminent UAE university graduates for their noble contributions to society. Dr. Karim also pointed out that the University has partnerships with 25 prominent academic institutions around the world, each of which will welcome Ajman University students via exchange programs.
He concluded by offering deep appreciation to all the employees of Ajman University who work tirelessly to make the campus a safe and stimulating place.
