AU has signed an agreement with Edraak – an Arabic-language massive open online course (MOOC) platform – to share its faculty expertise with the Arab World at large. Founded by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Edraak is an initiative of the Queen Rania Foundation (QRF).
According to AU Chancellor Karim Seghir, the partnership with Edraak, which has more than 1 million subscribers, will increase Ajman University’s intellectual impact on Arabic-speaking communities.
“The agreement with Edraak reflects the AU’s commitment to social responsibility and spreading knowledge to the public,” explains Dr. Seghir. “Our contribution to the platform will be consistent with the needs, challenges and opportunities of the region.”
Edraak capitalizes on regional Arab talent to leverage technology developed by the Harvard-MIT consortium, edX, to provide the first non-profit Arabic MOOC platform. The platform broadcasts the best professors to the region at large, offering original Arabic courses to further enrich Arab education.
Through its partnership with edX, the platform gives Arab learners access in Arabic to courses taught and developed at top tier institutions like HarvardX, MITX, and UC BerkelyX. All courses are delivered at no cost to the learner.
