Ajman University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences’ BPharm program was officially granted International Certification by the prestigious US-based Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) in July. The certificate handover was carried out in an official ceremony on September 12, 2018 at the Fairmont Hotel, Ajman.
The certificate was presented to AU Chancellor Karim Seghir and Prof. Nageeb Hassan, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, by Dr. Mike Rouse, Assistant Executive Director of Professional Affairs and Director of International Services at ACPE. In attendance was Prof. Mohamed Yousif Baniyas, Director of the Commission for Academic Accreditation, Ministry of Higher Education, as well as AU partners, alumni, faculty and staff.
In his remarks, Dr. Karim conveyed the landmark distinction of earning international certification from the ACPE. He further added that AU “has been a pioneering institution since being established in 1988 as the first private university in the GCC. Our College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences was launched in 1996, as the first college in the UAE to offer a BPharm program for both genders.”
The Chancellor extended his gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman and Chairman of AU Board of Trustees, for his continuous support of Ajman University.
Professor Nageeb Hassan, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, said that the ACPE International Certification represents a milestone in the progress of the College towards the realization of its mission. He thanked everyone involved in achieving the certification, including “our committed faculty, brilliant students and supportive administrative staff and particularly the ACPE Steering Committee for their significant contribution and performance during preparation and follow up.”
Dr. Mike Rouse, who flew from the United States to attend the ceremony, said, “Ajman University is the second in the Emirates to achieve this distinction.” He added that the ACPE is fully aware of how much work is involved in the process and highly commended AU for its great efforts.
