Ajman University's College of Dentistry has taken a significant step towards fostering better health within the community. Through their Oral Health Awareness Program, which took place on the 15th of March 2022 in collaboration with Al Zuhour Private School, Sharjah, the university aimed to enlighten the younger generation about the intrinsic connection between oral hygiene and overall well-being, echoing the goals of Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) - Good Health and Well-being.
A team of dedicated faculty members and students from the MSc Pediatric Dentistry clinics, along with the Ajman University Mobile Dental Clinic, descended upon the school. They conducted an interactive session with Grade 2 students, addressing common dental issues in children, the causes of cavities and gum diseases, and essential tips for maintaining good oral hygiene. The students eagerly participated in the Q&A session and observed a live demonstration of proper brushing techniques.
The event wasn't just about knowledge transfer; it was an embodiment of the principles of SDG 3. The children received free dental checkups, courtesy of the Ajman University Mobile Dental Clinic, which serves as an outreach initiative to provide free dental awareness and treatment, particularly to vulnerable sections of the community, including children. The checkups enabled early diagnosis and intervention, aligning with SDG 3's objectives of ensuring health services are accessible to all.
The feedback from the school staff was overwhelmingly positive. They found the program both educational and enjoyable for the students. The children left the event with a newfound enthusiasm for taking care of their oral health, setting the stage for a healthier future, one smile at a time. Ajman University's Oral Health Awareness Program not only celebrates the significance of oral health but actively contributes to the broader goal of ensuring good health and well-being for all, in accordance with the principles of SDG 3.
