Ajman University (AU), marking the World Diabetes Day, has run a special forum to spread awareness about the chronic disease. The forum, delivered by Dr Martin Verhelst, shed light on the importance of controlling diabetes in view of the increasing number of diabetic people in the UAE. Students of the AU Colleges of Dentistry, Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and Biomedical Engineering were so keen to attend the informative and enlightening forum. Meanwhile, AU students actively participated in a roundtable discussion on Type-1 diabetes at the Ramada Hotel. Inspiring stories of people diagnosed with diabetes were shared during the event that attracted a big number of students and locals from UAE community. According to the International Diabetes Federation, 425 million people worldwide have diabetes and one in every two people with diabetes is undiagnosed.
Although diabetes has no cure but, if people are aware then they can take steps to manage their diabetes and stay fit & healthy. AU celebrated "International Round Table Conference - Type 1 Speaks" at Penthouse of Ramada by Wyndham Beach Hotel, Ajman. As Ramada Hotel always collaborate with Ajman University so, in order to raise awareness, we were invited to volunteer and participate with them on the day of World Diabetes Day. Diabetes - Type 1 was their main focus to educate the students. Young children were the guest speaker to share the life challenges and difficulties they had and still facing them. We listened and supported the people whose lives are touched by diabetes and learn from them. The event participation was free for all student community in UAE and giveaways spreading the awareness on Diabetes were sponsored by Ajman University.
