The Department of Psychology at the College of Humanities and Sciences, in collaboration with the Juvenile Association and under the patronage of His Excellency Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Chairman of the Association’s Board of Directors, organized an awareness lecture titled “Wadeema Law and the Role of the Family in Protecting Children.” The session was attended by approximately 70 psychology students. Also participated in attendance and organization. Dr.Ahmed Al-Zoubi and Dr. Marei Ahmed are members of the psychology department.

The lecture was delivered by Mrs. Moza Salem Al Shoumi, a member of the Association’s Board of Directors, who emphasized the significance of Wadeema Law in safeguarding children's rights. She highlighted that this legislation represents a major milestone in the UAE’s legal framework for child protection, reinforcing the nation's commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment free from violence and neglect.

During the session, Al Shoumi provided insights into key legal provisions that uphold children's rights, including their right to identity, healthcare, education, and protection from harm. She also outlined the penalties imposed on individuals or entities violating these rights, noting that the law’s executive regulations offer comprehensive protection for children.

Al Shoumi further discussed the crucial role of psychologists and social workers in child protection, stressing that the family plays a fundamental role in ensuring a secure and supportive environment. She highlighted the need for greater awareness among parents about their legal responsibilities and encouraged stronger cooperation between families, schools, and community institutions to foster a child-friendly environment.

She also underscored the increasing demand for psychology professionals in the UAE, particularly following the declaration of 2025 as the "Year of Society." She emphasized that child protection specialists should have academic backgrounds in psychology or sociology and pointed out the urgent need for more psychologists in educational institutions and care centres to provide psychological support for children, particularly those exposed to abuse or neglect.
