As part of enhancing the practical aspect of academic study, the Department of Psychology at the College of Humanities and Sciences at Ajman University organized a scientific visit to the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The visit included students from the Psychology of Special Needs course, along with a group of other students from the department, under the supervision of Dr. Ayman Ramadan Zahran, the course instructor, and Dr. Ahmed Al Zoubi, the field training coordinator in the department.
The students and supervisors embarked on an academic tour within the organization, starting with an official reception by the institution’s officials, who provided a detailed explanation of the rehabilitation and training strategies that focus on transforming acquired skills into real production marketed commercially. This approach enhances the independence and empowerment of people of determination. During the tour, students were introduced to the institution's advanced training methods, which include modern facilities designed to meet the specific needs of different categories of people of determination, whether in vocational workshops, handicrafts, or assistive technologies. They also explored the integrated departments within the organization, which feature specialized units for vocational rehabilitation, skill development, and training in handicrafts, all aimed at fostering the social and professional inclusion of people of determination.
Students had the opportunity to witness firsthand the creative products made by people of determination within the institution. They observed workshops dedicated to producing Quran stands used in mosques, scented candles of various fragrances, textile and sewing products, and woodworking crafts. Officials emphasized that these products are not just part of training programs but are actively marketed and sold in local markets, further promoting the independence of people of determination and integrating them into the economic cycle.
During a meeting with the institution's employment officer, discussions highlighted the career opportunities available for psychology graduates, especially UAE nationals, in areas such as psychological rehabilitation and behavioral support. Additionally, Dr. Ahmed Al Zoubi and Dr. Ayman Zahran discussed potential future collaboration agreements with the institution’s management to enhance training opportunities for university students and organize joint academic activities.
At the conclusion of the visit, students expressed their deep admiration for the institution's advanced facilities and shared their excitement about this field experience, which allowed them to gain first hand insight into working with people of determination. This experience reinforced their practical understanding of the theoretical concepts studied in their course and inspired new ideas for their future careers
