A lecture was held in the Department of Psychology at Ajman University entitled “The Harmful Effects of Drugs and Methods of Preventing Them” by Lieutenant Colonel Abdel Nasser Khalil Al-Shirawi, an expert and certified lecturer from the Ministry of Interior on drug crimes, in the presence of a number of student professors in the Department of Psychology, especially students in the Social Psychology course. The lecture focused on a number of topics, the most prominent of which are: definition of drugs, their types, the dangers of each type, the reasons and motives for abuse, and the laws and regulations for dealing with users and drug dealers in the United Arab Emirates. The lecture included real-world examples of people who, whether on purpose or not, suffered consequences after falling victim to drug addiction. Accidentally, in addition to the contemporary technology strategies that advertisers employ in order to connect with a larger victim base. Abdel Nasser emphasized that families must pay close attention to any changes that some of their children experience, as these could be signs that the youngster is being affected by the drug epidemic. Among these signs are a change in the prior level of interest in appearance as well as the presence of some drug-related instruments inside the family. The youth’s room, his or her non-stop need for more money, etc. It is worth noting that Dr. Ahmed Al-Zoubi from the Psychology Department presented the lecturer at the beginning of the lecture, and Professor Dr. Maree Ahmed from the Psychology Department presented a certificate of appreciation to the lecturer on behalf of Dr. Rasha Abdulrahman, Head of the department.
