Course Description
This course explores the elderly, their definition and characteristics, the phase of senescence, the social problems the elderly might face, the means and methods for facing and coping with them, the social, economic, and environmental reasons that impact the problems the elderly might face, the social and psychological theories that interpret the elderly-related problems and issues, the objectives of providing care for the elderly, the role of the social specialist in terms of applying social care principles, the objectives of these principles in terms of the elderly, the laws and international charters supporting the rights of the elderly, the role assumed by the United Arab Emirates in terms of providing care to the elderly, and various international examples pertaining to the welfare of the elderly.
