More than 50 students from the Department of Accounting and the Department of Finance have participated in a series of impactful workshops on Data Analytics in Accounting & Finance.
The sessions were held on February 15th, March 11th and March 17th and lasted about 10 hours in total. They were delivered by Mr. Mohammed Alfan, a Data Analytics Trainer and recipient of the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award in the Excel Category in 2022. The Microsoft MVP award is given to “… individuals who have exhibited exceptional technical expertise and a talent for sharing knowledge within their technical community”. The sessions focused on equipping students with the necessary Excel tools in organizing, reporting, and analyzing data. The highly interactive workshops not only saw students discuss several real-life cases and issues, they were also able to download real-life data onto their laptops and complete several analytical tasks. Mr Alfan explained that the skills being taught in the sessions were useful to help bridge the gap with industry. He also expressed his delight in the enthusiasm displayed by the students in attendance.
At the conclusion of the workshops, Prof. Ibrahim Elsiddig, Head of the Accounting Department thanked the trainer for his time and the usefulness of the session. He further appreciated the trainer for his continued support of the College of Business Administration.
