The AUSCI team of students and faculty members from the college of Architecture, Art and Design, was awarded prestigious awards by the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi.
“SCI is a youth initiative that mobilises the enthusiasm and energy of youth to make change within themselves, their university campus and their community. Youth discuss and work on current environmental imperatives such as climate change, and the depletion of natural resources, in addition to the economic, social and cultural dilemma that seem to be the hallmark of our globalised world. SCI is designed to provide a road map for youth in the higher education institutions to tackle this uncertain future.”
The Initiative has witnessed large competition from universities all around the UAE. AUSCI was one out of the 14 different universities that took part of SCI nationwide. The main objective of their project “Responsibility Recycling” is “to generate a sustainable tradition and a new norm within the university's sustainable movements. To carry out our responsibility towards the environment as well as our community!” The project focuses on the excess sheets and posters produced by CAAD students throughout the semester, it’s recycling and reusing. The end products are easily fabricated by the students and sent out to carry a social service within the community! The project was well appreciated by the Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi, well enough to be published within the initiative’s book and the campaign’s film.
The team’s efforts, alongside the guidance by the CAAD faculty members led to AUSCI being awarded the Best New Team of SCI 2021/2022, which is the first time Ajman University takes part in SCI.
