World Hearing Day

Focusing SDG-3 -Good Health and Wellbeing Office of Medical Services and Office of Sustainability in Collaboration with AU Music Club conducted an event titled “To Hear for Life, Listen with Care” on 2 March 2023. This event was registered in the World Hearing Forum at WHO as an awareness campaign for Ajman University students which included awareness sessions, screening, and fun activities focusing on music lovers, musicians, and those using ear pods and aids propagating the awareness of ear and hearing care practices with emphasis on tips to be used while communicating with Hard of Hearing people and people with hearing loss to promote diversity and inclusion.

It was followed by an active group discussion where the students raised various concern on their hearing which was addressed properly: the ‘hearWHO’ app was demonstrated to all as an effective self-screening tool along with the distribution of other WHD education materials on ear care. The live demonstration on measuring the sound using sound meters and smart phone apps helped the student to take the initiative to measure the decibel level of their music instruments and practice sounds and they agreed to take breaks every 15 minutes and use of ear protection.
